I always thought that one of the fundamentals of sikhism was that all humans are equal.

But from my experiance Sikhs seem to be obsessed with there supposed caste.

What if a person is a dravidian brahmin? How can he be a pure" aryan" when a dravidian is supposed to be the lowest caste? I'm just wondering. This caste talk is just not making much sense.

A dravidian can be a brahmin and i know some. They don't claim to have any aryan blood in them. So please check your caste ranking system. Puh lease.

"My Sword thrists for the blood of a sikh. Is their any among you who will offer their head...?"
The first people to stand up where "Daya Ram(Kathri from Lahore) and Daram Das(Jat from Dehli)"

And jats have Rajput clan names because Rajputs were the Jagmans of jats.

No offense intended.

XXX,

Please stop your crap..we're tired of it........go find a name or is XXX your real name!

By XXX on Thursday, May 01, 2003 - 5:19 am:

Hi Guys,

NonJats may have Jat clan names because the JATS were their JAJMANS! Samething as the Southern US!---Jats have over 2500 years of recorded history!

Best wishes to all.

Anonymous,

A list of Jatt-Sikh names won't help, because some Jatt names overlap with other castes.............the best way to approach this is through the extended family!

By Hira on Sunday, April 27, 2003 - 7:25 pm:

my last name is Rai (soon to change it though ). I want to know more. Anyway, i also have to say.. why do a number of people keep posting up "sikh.. blah blah.. last names" uh, arent Sikhs not supossed to recognize the last names... obviously from what is posted.. last names tell alot about the persons background and caste!

By Anonymous on Sunday, April 27, 2003 - 8:11 pm:

Hi,
Does anyone have a list of Jatt Sikh surnames please? We have recently started to think about marriage for my daughter, and I, myself, grew up in U.K. and no nothing about castes etc. The more I hear about it, the more fed-up I am, because unless the boy comes from a long line of butchers, I frankly couldn't care less about his heritage. However, my husbands family is from the old school, and the first thing they want to know about a guy is his surname and village. So, if someone has a checklist,it would be much appreciated.

Anonymous,

Firstly Jatts don't believe is the caste system, however Rajputs clearly do!....... Rajputs think of Jatts very lowly and the Jatts think of Rajputs as sellouts! Jatts tend to have a very good self image, and compare themselve next to Rajputs, however Rajputs do not see it so!

Secondly, on the Bramanical Caste System scale Rajputs are ranked alongside Kshatriya's wheras Jatts are ranked as Shudra alongside Nai's, Tarkhans etc.....they may possibly be Vaish!

If you want me to provide links to the caste system then I will do...the ranking is as below!

Brahmins - Priests

Kshatriyas - Warriors.....Sikh Caste - Rajput, Khatri

Vaishanav - Trader/Non Manual Labour/Skilled - Sikh Caste .......Arora and possible Tarkhans, Jatt, Lohar, Khamboj, Lubhana.

Shudra - Hand Worker/Unskilled/Serville to above - Sikh Caste... Jatt, Tarkhan, Lohar, Nai, Chimba, Jhir, Khamboj, Lubhana, etc

Untouchable - So Called Dirty Degraded Professions - Sweeper and Leather Woerker - Sikh Caste Mazbhai

Now I do not believe in caste so I am pretty unbiased.

The above castes are further complicated by racial charachteristics.

Brahmins - Pure Aryan

Kshatriya - Aryan/White Race Mix

Vaishanav - Aryan/Lower White Race Mix

Shudra - White Race/Dravidian Mix

Untouchables - Dravidians

Futheremore, Goldsmiths are Vaish, because there profession does not involve getting their hands dirty.
Some Tarkhans claim their origins are Bramin, since they follow the diety Vishwakarma!

The Chamaar is only given a low rank because, he works with the hide of a cow which is revered by Brahmins. Otherwise there is nothing wrong with the profession.

By kssethi on Saturday, April 19, 2003 - 7:48 pm:

does anyone know the meaning of or caste which the last name Sethi would belong to? My father tells me that according to the Hindu caste, we would not be Jatts, but I think the second class the Kshatriyas.

Sethi is one of the common denominators for Punjabi KHATRIs.

Anonymous, Jatts are higher then Chamars, Chamars are 2nd lowest, after choorai, or maybe its the other way around anyway, its like this

Rajput/Jatt <-- equal rank
Saini's
Shimba <--clothes makers
Ramgharians/Tarkhans
all the other ones *goldsmiths, shoemakers, etc.)
Chamars/Choorai
