By S Balbeer Singh Bedi on Thursday, May 08, 2003 - 11:09 pm:

My name is Balbeer Singh I want to know what does it mean, and significance of this name in hostory. I mean a historic personality of the same name.

Dear Bhai Balbeer ji

Balbeer is a combination of two words.
Bal in Sanskrit, Prakrit and Punjabi means Strength. This is an ancient name and from Bal comes Balwaan, which was pronounced in old Punjabi as palwaan and later Persians seem to have taken this word and used for wrestelers as they were called pahelwaan. Indian Muslim converts use that word in Urdu as pahalwan.
Beer - BIR comes from Viryawan meaning a person with great bravery and courage. In Punjabi Virya or Birya later became Beera or Beer became synonym with Brother - as a respect.

Balbeer thus became a popular name in Northern India. There were few popular figures with this name but I dont recall rightnow. Somone can possibly help us there.

Your surname Bedi denotes very learned and knowledgable person who is well versed with all kinds of sciences and arts including spiritual scriptures and Vedas.

By Deep on Monday, September 02, 2002 - 11:16 pm:

Why are u all so desperate 2 find out wat ur namez mean.. names are juz names.. given 2 u by ur parents.. and worse still, while reading, i find that u all harp 2 much on this caste bakwaas.. there's no such thing as CASTE.. that era is long gone.. we are all equal people.. Equal in mind, heart and position. No one person is higher or lower than another. So for all u people who still cling on this caste business, i got juz 1 thing to say. Take a leaf out of all the Guru ji's books and change your way thinking. You will find a more beautiful world than the pathetic world you live in. :D good day..

Listen Anon,
first of all, I am Jatt.. and a dhakkad Jatt..
No doubt we are the best warriors and best workers but logically thinking we are not as smart as we think we are .. We have made a name in fighting, abusing and drinking .. don't you think so ? Do you think people are afraid of jatts ?? i highly doubt it ..
Why can't we be humble? Respect other people and bring glory to jattism by shining in different aspects of life ..
All I am saying stop showing this ego of being a Jatt.. Be proud of what you are but not by abusing the culture or religion of other peoples..

Rab Raakha
Ghseeta

I think you need to be exposed to other cultures, religions, races, a vast and broad variety of communities to raise your cultural awareness, and enhance your limited closed up culturally delimited life. In other words me thinks you need to get a life.

Three things to maintain -
Promise, Friendship, Affection
Three things to control-
Tongue, Temper & Temptation
Three things to watch-
Speech, behaviour & action
Three things to use carefully -
Pen, sword & Knowledge
Three things to cultivate -
Beauty, Character & Intelligence

A chherful smile for everyone-
Helps to get the work done
"thank you" is all you need to say
To make work easy in every way
"Please" is another word
Which, whenever it is heard
Makes people less snapy
makes everyone happy
if you've made people sad
By doing something they think is bad
Just say "sorry" for your gain
and try not to do it again
